History of the Bookstore

In the 1980s, founder of the bookstore, Mike Micos (Gerasimos Michopoulos) started listening to the cassettes of Metropolitan Augoustinos Kantiotis of Florina, Greece. As his interest in these cassettes grew, he would often lend them to people to assist their development of the Orthodox Faith. Soon, the same people requested copies of the cassettes in order to impart a deeper understanding of their faith to their loved ones. As time went on, many people wanted more, often requesting 10 or more copies at a time.

With permission from Bishop Kantiotis to copy the cassettes, Mike purchased a 7 stack cassette recorder, set up a small room at his workplace and volunteers assisted in copying the cassettes. It was not long before people’s thirst for knowledge of their faith grew and Mike began importing the books of Bishop Kantiotis.

The contents of the small room grew and grew with more and more people asking for the cassettes and books. As a result, in 1994 and with the blessing of Bishop Augoustinos, the Christian Orthodox Brotherhood of Apostle Paul Ltd. affectionately known as the Apostle Paul Bookstore was opened. From its conception to this date, the bookstore has operated through the generosity and dedication of a team of volunteers.
