"Every mortal is short-lived" says Scripture (Job 14:1). The human life-span is short - very short. And that's not all. We go through it at a gallop. "I've hardly opened my eyes and now I'm closing them again" said a hundred-year-old granny as she was dying.
And that's not all, either. Our brief lives are "full of wrath" (Job 14:1), they're full of suffering. We're buffeted by misfortunes, sorrows and the loss of our loved ones!
The burning question is: "Why in such a brief life are we subjected to so many troubles?" -- Prologue
