Description

The Divine Names and the Mystical Theology: Saint Dionysios the Areopagite

The Creator of the Universe Himself, in His Beautiful and Good Yearning towards the Universe, is transported outside of Himself and so is drawn from His transcendental throne above all things, to dwell in the heart of all things. Saint Dionysios the Areopagite

In the fourteenth century when Saint Gregory Palamas wrote his celebrated Triads defending the central Orthodox doctrine of Hesychasm and the nature of the Uncreated Light, he quoted from the works of Saint Dionysios the Areopagite more than from any other sacred author. Rightfully regarded as one of the earliest and greatest mystical theologians of the Church, saint Dionysios received directly from the Holy Spirit the sacred empirical theology which permeates his writings. His works are first and foremost, to use the saint’s own words, reverent hymns of peace praising the Divine Peace, and celebrations of Eternal Life through which we are shown how to be transported wholly out of ourselves and given unto God.

These extraordinary texts offer the reader an entry into the highest purpose of divine praise: the enraptured soul’s union with God Who is Infinite Love.

Of the translation os saint Dionysios into English, none have captures the inspiring beautyr of the original Greek text as has C.E.Rolt’s time-honoured edition. — Backcover
