Elder Paisios the Hagiorite, The Friend of Children

Saint Paisios was born almost a century ago in today’s Turkey, in a large family. Inspired by the example of his parents, he was loved by everyone for his benevolence. He helped anyone who was in need and he taught the children of his village about the Orthodox faith.

Ever since his childhood, he wanted to become a monk and this dream was fulfilled many years later in the Holy Mount Athos. There he became a great ascetic and he received from God the gift of taming wild animals, He gave sweets to the children who came to his cell and advised them to do good deeds and they repaid him with their love and gratitude. — Backcover
