Alexandros Papademetriou, president of this publishing house, introduced me to him. What particularly impressed me as we sat down by a round table in the bookstore of ‘Astir’ at 10 Lycourgou Street, near Omonoia Square, was his sheer presence and the way he spoke. He radiated great kindness and gentleness, serenity and a quiet cheerfulness. His speech was wholly untainted by affectation, anger, bitterness, anxiety, or other passion.”
