This icon was found in a myrtle bush, myrtiá in Greek which is a native plant of Greece.
Myrtle is from the Greek myrtós.
According to tradition, the icon was found in either the 12th or 15th century by a shepherd. It was found with a dark or black appearance of the Virgin’s face.
