Description

The Grace of God is made manifest in the marvellous world which surrounds us. This is so apparent both in nature and in people’s lives. Yet there are also occurrences of special supernatural grace. Such was the miraculous appearance of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God 700 years ago.
This happened at the end of the 13th century. Russia was living through troubled times. Hordes of Tartars, a barbaric Mongolian tribe, had devastated almost the entire country. After the attack of the cruel Khan Batyi, the place where the city of Kursk used to stand had turned into a wooded wilderness. The inhabitants of the nearest surviving city, Rylsk, often went hunting in these woods…
